West wants to ‘castrate’ G20, says China on US’s ‘spoiler’ charge

Days after the US called on China to set aside its issues with India and not to “play the role of a spoiler” ahead of the G20 summit in Delhi, Beijing has hit back by accusing Washington and the West as a whole of pushing their own agenda and “wanting to tear the G20 apart”. In an editorial piece in its mouthpiece Global Times, China claimed that the West is fixated on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and not “economic recovery and multilateral diplomacy”, which India, as G20 Chair, wants to focus on. “The US and the West, which often claim they ‘stand with India’, have made great efforts to hype the ‘differences’ between the participating countries of the G20 summit,” it said.

US first lady Jill Biden positive for Covid-19, Biden tests negative

US first lady Jill Biden has tested positive for Covid-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms while President Joe Biden tested negative for the virus, the White House said on Monday. Biden's 72-year-old wife last had Covid in August of last year, while the president, now 80, last tested positive in July 2022. "This evening, the First Lady tested positive for Covid -19," her communications director, Elizabeth Alexander, said in a statement. "She will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware."

Biden says he's disappointed at Jinping's absence from G20 summit

US President Joe Biden said on Sunday that he was disappointed that Chinese President Xi Jinping would not be attending the G20 summit  in India, but added that he was going to "get to see him." "I am disappointed ... but I am going to get to see him," Biden told reporters in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, without elaborating further on the details of his likely meeting with the Chinese president. Biden will be in India from September 7-10 for the G20 summit scheduled to be hosted in Delhi for 2 days. Xi is likely to skip the summit, though Chinese Premier Li Qiang is expected to represent Beijing at the meeting.
