DMK's remarks on 'Sanatana' highly offensive, punishable: Activist Rahul Easwar

As the controversy around statements on Sanatana Dharma made by DMK leaders Udhayanidhi Stalin and later A Raja continue to trigger reactions, Kerala-based social activist Rahul Easwar said that the comments made by these leaders are extremely offensive and call for strict action. Union minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday accused senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh of twisting facts about constitutional provisions and parliamentary procedures related to Parliament sessions. "It is crucial to stop the spread of misinformation that scandalises Parliament and its procedures," the parliamentary affairs minister said in a rejoinder to Ramesh. Jairam Ramesh had accused him of being "misleading" in his reply to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's letter to the prime minister. The Congress has been targeting the government for not disclosing the agenda of the five-day special session starting from September 18.

After Udhayanidhi, DMK's A Raja compares 'Sanatana Dharma' with AIDS, leprosy

The Tamil Nadu party DMK took the ‘Sanatana Dharma’ controversy a notch further, by now comparing it with diseases like leprosy and AIDS. DMK’s A Raja on Thursday said that 'Sanatana Dharma' should be compared with diseases that have social stigma attached to them -- like AIDS and leprosy. His statement came in defense of Udhayanidhi Stalin’s controversial statement that likened the 'Sanatana Dharma' to dengue and malaria, adding that such things need to be eradicated.
