Video: Chandrayaan-3 rover takes a spin on Moon. Literally

On Thursday, ISRO released visuals showing the rover Pragyan rotating "in search of a safe route".

"The rover was rotated in search of a safe route. The rotation was captured by a Lander Imager Camera. It feels as though a child is playfully frolicking in the yards of Chandamama, while the mother watches affectionately. Isn't it?" ISRO said.

India took a "walk on the Moon" with the successful deployment of the Pragyan rover on the lunar surface on August 24. Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-on mission to Chandrayaan-2 to demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface. It consists of Lander and Rover configurations.

The mission objectives of Chandrayaan-3 include demonstrating Rover roving on the moon and conducting in-situ scientific experiments.

The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 makes India the fourth country to soft land on the Moon, after the United States, the Soviet Union, and China. The successful mission made India the first nation to have a rover deployed on the unchartered Moon's south pole. The Pragyan rover is expected to operate for one lunar day, which is about 14 Earth days.
