Using ChatGPT - smart work or shortcut? Educators discuss at Education Conclave

Teachers and educators are grappling with the use of ChatGPT in classrooms, as it presents both opportunities and challenges. A recent survey revealed that a significant number of students, around 70 percent, use ChatGPT for their school assignments, while 80 percent believed it should be allowed for learning. However, only 40 percent of teachers agreed with this idea.

The issue at the core of this debate is the trust between teachers and students. While some see ChatGPT as a shortcut that hinders critical thinking and decision-making, others believe that smart teachers can effectively incorporate it into the classroom. The challenge lies in building trust within the teacher-student relationship while utilising this AI tool.

Despite reservations about AI models like ChatGPT, educators acknowledge its presence in the education system. They emphasise the importance of smartly using ChatGPT and incorporating it as a tool rather than relying solely on it for learning.

Overall, educators emphasise the need for informed and judicious use of ChatGPT and other AI models, recognising their potential while ensuring students are well-prepared for the changing technological landscape.
