Daniil Medvedev had a hilarious message for his wife after losing the US Open final on Sunday, September 10, which was also their wedding anniversary.

Medvedev went up against Novak Djokovic and this was not their first encounter at the same stage in the Arthur Ashe stadium as they had previously faced each other in the 2021 US Open final, where the Russian had emerged victorious. However, this time, the outcome was different.

Djokovic displayed an impressive performance, defeating Medvedev with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. This victory was more than just another win for Djokovic; it equaled Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles in the Open era, cementing his place as one of the sport's greatest players.

Medvedev, on the other hand, had a challenging match. Despite having previously defeated Djokovic in a US Open final and leading their all-time series 9-5, he struggled to maintain his edge in the shorter rallies. Djokovic won 92 points to Medvedev's 68 in rallies up to nine shots long. Although Medvedev managed to craft a slim two-point advantage on points of nine or more shots, it was not enough to secure him the victory.

This loss marked Medvedev's fifth Grand Slam final, bringing his record to 1-4, with two losses each to Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Interestingly, this match coincided with Medvedev's wedding anniversary, adding a personal significance to the day.

At the trophy presentation, despite the loss, Medvedev saw the lighter side of things and had a hilarious message for his wife. The Russian said that two years ago, on the same day, he won the US Open, which served as a perfect anniversary gift for his wife.

Despite his motivation to gift his wife another grand present, Medvedev said things didn't turn out well for him.

“I was here 2 years ago when I won. I was like what a great anniversary gift for my wifeâ€æ a pretty sh*t one today. Today is our anniversary again.. I thought, come on, do it one more time,” said Medvedev
