Sharad Pawar's secret meeting, refuting claims, and what they mean

On today's episode of To the Point, India Today's Nabila Jamal focuses on NCP chief Sharad Pawar's statement about being offered a cabinet position during the "secret meeting" in Pune that was held a few days back between him and his nephew Ajit Pawar. NCP Spokesperson Clyde Crasto and Congress Spokesperson Dr Raju Waghmare provide more clarity on Sharad Pawar’s statement and clarifications. Amid speculations surrounding their meeting, where the two NCP factions' leaders convened, reports had suggested that Sharad Pawar received a Cabinet berth offer. Denying these reports, Sharad Pawar stated, "No political discussions happened there. I was not offered a Cabinet berth." Earlier, Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan had asserted that the Union Cabinet position was discussed during the meeting, sparking political interest.

Loss of lives unprecedented: Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Himachal rain fury

On today's episode of To The Point, Preeti Choudhry speaks with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu about the havoc wreaked by incessant rains in the state. Sukhu said the state has been hit hard by heavy rains, resulting in an unprecedented toll of 50 lives lost so far. The chief minister said he has held a review meeting, and has another one scheduled in the night. The devastation has been intensified by landslides and uprooted trees, contributing to the tragic deaths, the CM said. He said there has been heavy human losses, noting that such a magnitude of fatalities is unprecedented for the region. He said that around 12-13 people are still trapped in Shiv Mandir, and a rescue operation is underway to ensure their safety. CM Sukhu said he is personally overseeing the ground operations and the rescue mission. He emphasized the importance of heeding landslide warnings and leaving vulnerable areas promptly. As a precaution, schools and other institutions have been temporarily shut down to ensure public safety, he said.
