Hot on the heels of the new 2023 Tata Nexon, the Indian automaker has revealed the Nexon EV, which now goes by the Nexon.ev name in line with the Tata.ev branding for the EV business which was revealed some days ago. The Nexon.ev gets the same updates as its ICE powered sibling, but also comes with certain mechanical changes. To read the first drive review of the regular Nexon by Auto Today, click here.

Just like the regular Tata Nexon, the EV too comes with a very sharp exterior design. This has also been inspired by the Curvv concept. While the older Nexon and Nexon EV were identical, the new one actually does sport some differences. Tata claims that the aerodynamics have been improved, which are bound to help range. Compared to the regular Nexon, the Nexon.ev comes with a single-tone body colored grille portion, which is blacked out on the ICE. The lower section sports a slatted design. However, it is actually the full-width LED lightbar which runs across the nose which is the most unique factor for the electric SUV. This even functions as the charging status indicator. The SUV gets the new split headlamp design with sequential LED DRLs. There are new alloy wheels too.

Inside the cabin the Tata Nexon.ev sports a similar layout to the new Nexon. Multiple layers use multiple textures and make for a very busy and premium cabin experience. The gear selector dial has been replaced with a regular gear selector. It comes with the new 12.3-inch display which is infact larger than the one on the regular Nexon and features new UI. There is also the new 10.25-inch instrument display which is intuitive and even capable of beaming data from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto directly in the driver's view. There are new HVAC controls with toggle switches. Features include 360-degree camera, wireless charger, ventilated front seats, air purifier, Type-C ports, sunroof, JBL audio, voice commands and more.

With the new Nexon.ev, the brand has used MR - Medium Range and LR - Long Range designations instead of the Prime and Max as used earlier. The MR continues to use the 30kWh battery pack while the LR comes with the 40.5kWh battery pack. Tata claims a range of 325km for the MR and 465km for the LR, which means a gain of 12km over the older car. The motor is however new - this is the Gen-2 PMSM which is 20kg lighter and is made with 30 per cent less rare each materials. It is also better at efficiency and battery management. The LR has access to a 144bhp motor while the MR has a 129bhp motor, both motors produce 215Nm of electric torque. Tata claims a 0 to 100kmph sprint time of 8.9s for the LR and a top speed of 150kmph.

Tata now offers the 7.2kW AC charger as standard. This takes 4.3 hours to take the battery from 10 to 100 per cent in the MR, and 6 hours in the LR. With a DC charger, only 56 minutes do the trick. The SUV now comes with V2V - Vehicle to Vehicle and V2L - Vehicle to Load features, allowing the Nexon.ev to charge other EVs and appliances.

Tata is offering three trims for the Nexon.ev - Creative, Fearless and Empowered. All three come with a different set of colours and upholstery adding more depth to the model range. Expected to be priced between Rs 15 to 21 lakh (ex-showroom). This will directly compete with the Mahindra XUV400.
