Switch Mobility has unveiled the IeV 3 and the IeV 4 electric LCVs.

Ashok Leyland’s subsidiary, Switch Mobility, today unveiled the IeV series of electric models in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) category. The company showcased two products, the IeV 3 and the IeV 4, which are based in the 2 to 3.5-tonne payload segment.

Developed with an investment of Rs 100 crore, the IeV platform will not be limited to the electric LCV category only. It will spawn electric CVs in higher categories as well in the next five years.

Replying to a question from India Today, Switch Mobility CEO Mahesh Babu said: “We have said that IeV series will be below 7.5-tonne payload category and will come up with multiple products. The twin brothers (IeV 3 and IeV 4) are here. You will see many more products going forward.”

In response to another question, Babu noted that Switch Mobility has plans for the next five years and will see what the market demands.

“We will have to look at the timing, when the customer will be ready to buy such a product in that segment. We will do a study, based on which we will be in the market,” he said.

The IeV series is claimed to be India’s first electric offering in its category.

With their relatively lower cost of operation and maintenance, the IeV 3 and the IeV 4 will bring in monthly savings of Rs 17,000 for customers, according to Switch Mobility.

The Switch IeV 3 has a gross weight of 2,590 kg with a payload capacity of 1,200 kg. It uses a 25.6kWh LFP battery, which is paired with a 40kW/190Nm electric motor. The claimed range is 120km on a single full charge.

The electric LCV can be fully juiced up in six hours using a standard 3.3kW charger, while it is also compatible with a 30kW DC fast charger.

The Switch IeV 4 has a gross weight of 3,490kg with a payload capacity of 1,700kg. It is equipped with a 32.2kWh LFP battery, which is clubbed with a 60kW/230Nm electric motor. The range is similar to that of the Switch IeV 3 at 120km on a single full charge.

The electric model takes approximately eight hours with a 3.3kW charger to achieve a 100% charge, while supporting fast charging through a 30kW charger.

The IeV 3 and IeV 4 can be used in multiple applications, including parcel and courier service, e-commerce, FMCG, organised retail and transportation of white goods.

Switch Mobility will start customer deliveries of the IeV 3 and the IeV 4 in January 2024.
