Shaheen Shah Afridi sent for two-week rehabilitation program after injury his knee in T20 World Cup Final

The Pakistan Cricket Board have sent pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi on a two-week rehabilitation program after he suffered a knee injury in the final of the T20 World Cup. The board breathed a sigh of relief after the scans showed no further injury to his right knee.

Shaheen was forced to walk off the pitch after he damaged it while taking the catch of Harry Brook in the finals. He completed the catch, but the forward brace of the right knee hit the ground, and he was seen wincing in pain right away.

Pakistan Cricket Board updated the bowler's condition on Monday, 14 November and said that Shaheen's injury was due to a flexion while landing.

“Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been advised two-week rehabilitation after he landed awkwardly while taking Harry Brook’s catch during Sunday’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 final in Melbourne,” Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement.

“The scan conducted on Monday morning prior to the team’s departure for Pakistan, has confirmed there were no signs of an injury and the knee discomfort was likely ‘due to a forced knee flexion whilst landing’.”

The pacer returned to the T20 World Cup after suffering a long bout of knee injury, which he had suffered while playing a Test match against Sri Lanka earlier this year. The player had gone to London and rehabilitated under Crystal Palace Football Club to fastrack his progress for the world tournament.

“Shaheen’s return to international cricket will be subject to the champion fast bowler’s successful completion of the rehabilitation programme and following go-aheads by the medical staff,” the PCB said.
