Pixel 8: 4 upgrades we would love to see

— Revolutionary Camera Enhancements: There’s no doubt at all that Google Pixel phones are renowned for their exceptional camera capabilities, and it's no secret that camera technology is actually one of the major battlegrounds for smartphone supremacy. With the Pixel 8, I am seriously hoping for breakthroughs that redefine mobile photography. Features like improved low-light performance and enhanced optical zoom, which also means, that while the Pixel 8 Pro should feature a telephoto lens, getting it on the Pixel 8 would also be sweet. Additionally, advanced computational photography techniques could set new standards, ensuring that Pixel 8 users capture stunning images in any condition.

— Extended Battery Life: Despite flagship smartphones getting better by the day, battery life is something that still remains a top concern for users. In an era where devices multitask and facilitate our daily lives, a longer-lasting battery is a game-changer. Now the Google Pixel 7 Pro has surely made strides in the battery department, but the regular Pixel 7 had a rather mediocre endurance, to say the least. So, a substantial upgrade in the Pixel 8's battery capacity, coupled with refined power management, and faster wired charging, would undoubtedly be welcomed by users who rely heavily on their devices throughout the day.

— Seamless Integration of AI and AR: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR) are steadily becoming integral parts of our smartphone experience and the Pixel 7 phones are good examples of how good Google is in these areas. So, given Google's prowess in AI, it positions the Pixel series to offer even more immersive and useful AI-driven features. Imagine a Pixel 8 that seamlessly integrates AI to enhance everyday tasks, predict user needs, and create astonishing AR experiences that bridge the gap between the digital and physical worlds. I think I may have a little too far, but I am certainly expecting great things with the Pixel 8 series when it comes to AI and AR.

— Innovative Display Technology: Smartphone displays have evolved from mere touchscreens to sophisticated high-resolution, high-refresh-rate curved screens that shape our interaction with devices. I really wish, with the Pixel 8, Google could push the envelope by introducing an even more innovative display technology, such as 120Hz high-refresh-rate screens with improved colour accuracy and brightness levels, even on the regular Pixel 8 model. I would even want to see a symmetrical, near bezel-less design on both the Pixel 8 models, just like the Galaxy S23 series. This is, of course, without compromising on durability.

Summing up

As the world eagerly awaits the unveiling of the Google Pixel 8 series, I am sure the tech community's wishlist will continue to grow. Of course, the competition between Google and Apple drives innovation to new heights, benefiting consumers by introducing useful features and capabilities. And, while these upgrades are purely speculative at this point, these upgrades are something that I wish to be implemented in the Pixel 8 series; I think I can say that they reflect the hopes and dreams of smartphone enthusiasts who anticipate the Pixel 8's arrival with bated breath. One thing is certain: the smartphone landscape will be quite interesting to see in the coming months!
