The victim, identified as Soni, was originally from Bihar, and lived with her husband in Noida's Badalpur area. She had left her first husband and remarried, but her second marriage was causing tension within the family.

Soni's mother-in-law Geeta Devi was unhappy with the marriage. She told police that her son was neglecting the family after his second marriage and had also stopped providing financial support.

She then hired two contract killers and paid them Rs 1 lakh to kill her daughter-in-law.

During the investigation, police came across the images of the two assailants on CCTV camera footage recovered from near Soni’s residence, following which they were tracked down.

One of the suspects, Sachin, attempted to flee with the police's pistol but got injured in a scuffle with the cops, a senior police official, Suniti Singh, said.
