'Ready for all possible help': PM Modi condoles loss of lives in Morocco earthquake
Expressing grief over the loss of lives in the magnitude 6.8 Morocco earthquake, PM Narendra Modi today morning said India was ready to offer all possible assistance to the country.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the Morocco earthquake.
Taking to his official X handle, the Prime Minister extended his condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and said India is ready to offer all possible assistance to Morocco.
"Extremely pained by the loss of lives due to an earthquake in Morocco. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with the people of Morocco. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones," PM Modi wrote on X.
"May the injured recover at the earliest. India is ready to offer all possible assistance to Morocco in this difficult time," he added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the Morocco earthquake while he spoke at the G20 Summit in New Delhi.
"The whole world is with Morocco in this hour of grief, we are ready to provide all possible help," PM Narendra Modi said.
A magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck Morocco's High Atlas mountains late on Friday (Morocco time zone), killing at least 296 people, destroying buildings and sending residents of major cities rushing from their homes.
The country's interior ministry said the number constituted a preliminary death toll and that 153 people had been injured.
A local official told news agency Reuters that most deaths were in mountain areas that were hard to reach.
Residents of Marrakech, the nearest big city to the epicentre, said some buildings had collapsed in the old city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and local television showed pictures of a fallen mosque minaret with rubble lying on smashed cars.
