The discharge of Tamil Nadu DMK minister I Periyasamy (L) and ex-minister from the AIADMK, B Valarmathi (R) from corruption cases will be reviewed by a Madras High Court judge.

Justice Anand Venkatesh of the Madras High Court on Thursday took up two revision petitions against the discharge of Tamil Nadu minister I Periyasamy of DMK from a corruption case and former minister from the AIADMK, B Valarmathi, from a disproportionate assets case.

With this, the judge has taken up six cases in the last month against the acquittal of Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy and the discharge of Revenue Minister KKSSR Ramachandran, Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam from disproportionate assets cases.

An Additional Special Court for MP/MLA discharged Periyasamy in a case registered against him by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) for having allotted a Tami Nadu Housing Board plot to a former security officer of ex-Chief Minister M Karunanidhi when he served as the Housing Minister in 2008.

In the case of former AIADMK minister B Valarmathi, a special court in Chennai discharged her from a disproportionate assets case in 2012.

The two cases came up while Justice Anand Venkatesh was hearing the petition filed by K Ponmudy and the DVAC asking him to recuse himself from the revision against the minister's acquittal and give it to another bench. The judge then decided to look into the orders by the special court of MPs and MLAs.
