The South Korean actor, Jung Hae-in, has established a strong foothold in the film and television industry with an array of remarkable roles. He, however, received global acclaim for his role as Ahn Jun-ho in the Netflix series ‘D.P’., the character he chose to play after his military enlistment. The series returned for a second season on July 28, 2023, with Hae-in reprising his role as Jun-ho and once again garnering accolades for his performance.

Jung Hae-in, in an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.in, opened up about why ‘D.P.’ is so significant in his career, his approach to the role, and reminisced about his journey. Hae-in mentioned that if he could give advice to himself back in 2013 when he was beginning his career, he would recommend relishing the work and enduring till the end. He also remembered to send a message to his Indian fans.

'D.P.' ENCOURAGED ME WHEN I LACKED FAITH IN MYSELF

Referring to the series ‘D.P.’ as a turning point in his career, Hae-in highlighted that the second season's focal point is the character Ahn Jun-Ho’s growth. He also stated that the series reassured him when he doubted himself. “The show was a great turning point for me. It encouraged me when I lacked faith in myself, and I felt grateful for many people’s support who watched this series," the actor told IndiaToday.in.

Remembering the life lessons that he took away from his character, Ahn Jun-ho, Jung Hae-in added, “Ahn Jun-Ho in ‘D.P.’ is a character with conviction who can confront an unreasonable moment. It takes a lot of courage to have a conviction, so I think that’s what I want to emulate.”

He further shared, "As an actor, I’ve been involved in many filmographies and met so many people. As those dramas and movies received a lot of attention and love, more people recognized and supported me. So I became more and more responsible for my work."

ON HIS FAVOURITE SCENE FROM SEASON 2 OF 'D.P.'

Referring to his favourite scene from Season 2, Hae-in mentioned, “One of the points to focus on is the character Ahn Jun-Ho’s growth this season. My favorite scene in Season 2 is the post credit scene from the last episode.”

Discussing his process of channeling such deeply emotional and thrilling scenes in ‘D.P.,’ Jung credited the authentic filming circumstances that helped him thoroughly immerse himself in his character. “The whole filming circumstances were truly realistic to immerse myself in the play as an actor. Every moment, I tried to think and act on what Ahn Jun-Ho would have done in this situation,” the versatile actor prompted.

AN ADVICE HE WOULD GIVE JUNG HAE-IN OF 2013

When asked about branching into other genres, Jung mentioned that he is open to exploring all genres that he has not yet delved into earlier.

Revealing an advice he would give his 2013 self who was just debuting, Hae-in added, “If I had to give advice to myself in 2013, I'd like to say, "I want you to enjoy your work and hope you could endure it to the end."”

ON HIS DECADE-LONG CAREER

Reflecting on his prosperous acting career spanning a decade, Jung aspires to challenge himself further. He reiterated, “I think I have to challenge myself more as an actor in the next 10 years. Also, I want to be a person who can look around me. The biggest hope is not to get sick and to stay healthy.”
