Graft-accused Chandrababu Naidu produced in court, says illegally detained by CB CID

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, found himself in an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) courtroom in Vijayawada under tight security on Sunday morning. This came on the heels of his arrest the previous day in connection with an alleged corruption case. Naidu's legal defense was spearheaded by renowned Supreme Court advocate Siddarth Luthra, who was supported by a dedicated team of lawyers.

The courtroom in Vijayawada was not short of TDP's senior leaders and party loyalists, who had assembled to show their solidarity with their party president.

The saga leading up to this courtroom appearance had its twists and turns. At 3:40 am, Naidu was whisked away to the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada for a battery of medical tests. This followed a grueling 10-hour-long interrogation session at the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Kunchanapalli the previous day.

Naidu himself has raised some serious allegations, claiming that he was unlawfully detained by the CB CID for a staggering seven hours. He asserted that his bus had been surrounded on September 8th, leaving him with no means of movement. Despite his arrest reportedly occurring at 11 pm, the official records only indicated a formal arrest at 6 am. Moreover, Naidu was taken to the CB CID office at Mangalagiri without being presented before any court.

In light of these events, Naidu's legal team swiftly moved to seek immediate production before a court, a plea that is scheduled for a hearing shortly in the Vijayawada court. The courtroom has been cleared of all individuals except for the legal representatives of Naidu, the CB CID officials, and representatives of the state government. The case continues to unfold, drawing significant attention and raising questions about the circumstances of Naidu's detention and arrest.
