Gaurav Gill to participate in Acropolis Rally, Greece

Indian rally ace and JK Tyre prodigy Gaurav Gill is all set to compete in the Acropolis Rally of Greece in the World Rally Championship (WRC2) category. The rally is scheduled from September 7th to 10th, 2023.

Set in Greece, this is hailed as the 'Rally of Gods' due to its geographic location and the sheer challenge that it presents to the rally drivers. It will cover a total distance of 1,235km spanning 15 special stages spread across 307km. A total of 72 teams will compete in the event, with 30 cars competing in the WRC2 category.

Gill will race with the rally-spec Skoda Fabia R5 with his co-driver Florian Barral who hails from France. He will be supported by his tried and tested Italian Delta Rally team. Famed rally drivers such as Andreas Mikkelsen, winner of the last Acropolis rally and current leader of WRC2, Yohan Rossel and Sami Pajari will also be seen scorching the rally stages here.

During the 2022 season, Gill competed in the Safari Rally in Kenya, Rally Finland and the Acropolis Rally. He finished sixth at the Acropolis rally last year. Commenting on his participation, Gill said, "I’m really looking forward to driving in the Rally Acropolis. The sweltering heat, the dust, the rocky mountain passes and loose gravel all combine to make this one of the most punishing rallies on the calendar. This event is not for the faint-hearted but these conditions play to my strengths. I expect to be in my element this weekend and I’m going to give it everything to bring home a strong result."

The Acropolis Rally will start on Thursday (September 7) post the ceremonial flag-off in Athens. Teams will then take on the new EKO Super Special Stage located in and around the city spanning 1.48km. This event will be time, setting the stage up for the rally.
