As Delhi is all set to host G20 Leaders Summit, entire world is looking at Delhi Declaration or Joint statement, which is expected to issue after the annual event gets over.

Indian authorities are very confident to have a joint declaration as efforts have been made to reach out consensus among participants. If the joint declaration doesn’t happen, then Indian Presidency could be first to not have it.

While speaking at the presser a day before the event at Bharat Mandapam, G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said that Delhi declaration is almost ready. It will now be submitted to leaders to decide if they want to sign.

“A joint declaration is almost ready, and it will be shared with G20 leaders. It’s up to the leaders to decide whether to sign it or not. Once it’s signed, I would be able to share its details,” Kant said. Efforts are on to give final shape to the declaration and to bring everyone on board.

On Russia-Ukraine war, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has already made it clear that there were “divergences’ in the G20 External Affairs members meeting.

Key obstacle before the joint declaration would be West vs Russia. China and Russia would never sign the declaration, said an official.

John Kirby, National Security Council for strategic communications at White House on Thursday indicated that the G20 Summit may end without a joint declaration as Russia and the West continue to spar over Ukraine war among other issues.

It is also believed that Russia may oppose the declaration if Moscow’s position on the Ukraine war and other issues is not getting adequate attention.

Under India’s presidency, G20 began in November 2022 and the Leaders Summit 2023 is being hosted under the theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ or One Earth, One Family, One Future.

Amitabh Kant said, "...One of the key takeaways of India's Presidency is that the world acknowledges that India has truly revolutionised technology through the digital public infrastructure.”
