Delhi decked up to welcome G20 delegates. Here's the schedule

New Delhi is preparing to shine on the global stage as it welcomes world leaders from September 8 to September 10 for the G20 Summit. The city is adorned with vibrant murals, illuminated G20 billboards line its streets, and special arrangements are in place in hotels and restaurants. During this weekend, leaders from the world's 20 largest economies will gather to discuss critical global, economic, and geopolitical issues. The G20, consisting of 19 countries and the European Union, includes Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Under India's Presidency, the G20 Summit in New Delhi will see the participation of prominent leaders such as US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, among others, over the course of the next three days.

G20: Biden to reach India tomorrow, UK's Rishi Sunak hails India's Presidency

With the G20 Summit all set to be held in Delhi, US President Joe Biden will land in India tomorrow, at around 7 pm. During his visit to the national capital, Biden will travel in 'The Beast', the US Presidential Cadillac, that will be flown to India from the US. Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said India's diversity and its extraordinary successes means it is the "right country" at the "right time" to hold the G20 presidency, as he hailed Narendra Modi's leadership over the last year. He also noted that India's presidency of the bloc came when the world is facing innumerable challenges.

Aditya L1 successfully performs 2nd Earth-bound manoeuvre; Ayodhya seer's bounty on Udhayanidhi; more

The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) said early on Tuesday that Aditya L1, the country's first solar mission, successfully performed the second Earth-bound manoeuvre. The space agency's Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) carried out the operation. "The second Earth-bound manoeuvre (EBN#2) is performed successfully from ISTRAC, Bengaluru. ISTRAC/Isro's ground stations at Mauritius, Bengaluru and Port Blair tracked the satellite during this operation. The new orbit attained is 282 kilometres x 40,225 km," Isro shared the update on X.

Centre forms panel on 'One Election One Nation' under Ex-President Kovind

The central government on Friday established a committee under the leadership of former President Ram Nath Kovind, to evaluate the feasibility of implementing a 'One Nation One Election' system, which seeks to synchronize the scheduling of general and state elections. This initiative follows closely on the heels of reports indicating the government's intention to introduce legislation pertaining to 'One Nation, One Election' during the upcoming special session of Parliament, slated for September 18 to 22. Authorities in Rajasthan's Kota district have asked coaching institutes to stop conducting routine tests of students preparing for NEET and other competitive exams for the next two months in the wake of suicides by a number of aspirants. Over two lakh students move to Kota annually to prepare for competitive exams such as the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) for engineering and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to medical colleges. According to authorities, 22 students preparing for competitive exams in the district have ended their lives so far in 2023 -- the highest for any year. Last year, the figure was 15.

Russia's most powerful mercenary Yevgeny Prigozhin was on board a plane which crashed on Wednesday evening north of Moscow with no survivors, the Russian authorities said, two months to the day after he led an abortive mutiny against the army top brass. There was no official comment from the Kremlin or the Defence Ministry on the fate of Prigozhin, head of the Wagner mercenary group and a self-declared enemy of the army's leadership over what he argued was its incompetent prosecution of Russia's war in Ukraine.

Chandrayaan-3: Isro gears up for Moon landing

Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander is expected to make a touchdown on the south polar region of the Moon at 18.04 hours today, after 17 minutes of descent from the orbit it is in. The Indian Space Research Organisation’s Telemetry Tracking and Command Centre (ISTRAC) in Bengaluru will signal Chandrayaan-3's Moon landing at 17.47 hours. If all goes well, India will become the first country to land a spacecraft on the lunar south pole, a historic moment for the country's space programme.

A 16-year-old Muslim boy was allegedly beaten up by a group of persons amid chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’, after he was caught by them at the Bandra railway terminus here before he could board a train with a teenage Hindu girl, who they claimed was kidnapped by him, police said. The incident occurred on July 21, but came to light when its video went viral on social media on Tuesday. The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday took suo motu cognisance of the matter and registered a case against the yet-to-be identified assaulters, the police said.
