Elon Musk confirms name of secret third child with Grimes, shares meaning behind Tau Techno Mechanicus

The names of Elon Musk and Singer Grimes' children have often been a topic of interest in the past. When the former couple welcomed their first child, a son named X Æ A-Xii in May 2020, the entire internet was full of people talking about how to pronounce the name of the new baby boy. Grimes had also talked about her baby boy's name at length in a tweet. Then, the duo welcomed a daughter named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk via surrogacy in December 2021. For the longest time, the world believed that the couple were parents to these two kids. However, excerpts from Musk's upcoming biography revealed that the two had also welcomed another child in secret. While the age of the baby is not yet known, we do know the name. And Musk confirmed it too.

Elon Musk and Grimes' third child

A report in The New York Times revealed that the name of Elon Musk and Grimes' third child is Techno Mechanicus. It added that the child has been nicknamed Tau. The New York Times report is based on Musk's upcoming biography, written by journalist Walter Isaason. The book will be out on September 12 and a lot has been reported on its contents already.

After reports of his third child with Grimes surfaced, Musk took to Twitter to confirm the name of his youngest child and also mentioned what it means.

Responding to a tweet that talked about Musk and Grimes' three children, Musk wrote, "Tau Techno Mechanicus. Circumference/Diameter."

A Google search will reveal that Tau is basically the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, and was first approximated by Archimedes. In other words, Tau is double the value of Pi, a commonly used mathematical constant.

As soon as Musk revealed the full name on Twitter, congratulatory messages filled up the comments section.

Grimes on relationship with Musk

Grimes and Musk began dating in 2018 and dated for about three years before calling it quits. Last month, in an interview with Wired, Grimes talked about her relationship with the Twitter owner and described it as special. She also said that her experience in the relationship was her 'best internship ever' since she got to learn a lot from Musk.

She also talked about SpaceX and how it felt witnessing it all coming together. "People don't like talking about Elon, but it was incredible to be right there watching all that SpaceX stuff happen," she said and added, "That's a master class in leadership and engineering and makes you understand how rare it is to have a leader of that quality."

Grimes also said that the duo is still on good terms, and referred to Musk as her "best friend and the love of her life."
