Even as Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and CPIM's Sitaram Yechury share the stage at the INDIA alliance meet in Mumbai, Congress and CPIM continue to hit out at West Bengal Chief Minister in the state.

West Bengal CPIM secretary Md Salim and state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury slammed the BJP and TMC on the day the meeting of the INDIA bloc was held in Mumbai. Both leaders shared the stage at Dhupguri during campaigning for a bye-election.

The CPIM and Congress are both constituents of the Opposition bloc in a bid to prevent the BJP from resuming power at the Centre in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the public rally in support of the Congress-backed CPIM candidate, Ishwar Chandra Roy, for the upcoming bypoll, Adhir Chowdhury said, "People of Bengal are directionless in the dual violence in the state. People have lost their democratic rights, to vote, in Bengal. Come, this is the time to take revenge against TMC through voting who have done atrocities on you."

Adhir also alleged that leaders of both parties i.e. the TMC and BJP had been involved in corruption. He asked the voters to focus on the local political situation.

"I believe voters here should not consider what is happening in Delhi or Mumbai," he said.

Salim said, "What is happening in Mumbai, Bangalore, no one knows. People know what is happening in Dhupguri. Women are being raped here. Mamata is comparing tribals with her feet."

Meanwhile, senior leader of TMC and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh called it "a burning symbol of duplicity".

The bypoll in the Rajbanshi-dominated seat will be held on September 5. Ministry of Home Affairs issued a circular on Wednesday stating that the Centre would be deploying 15 more companies of central forces to West Bengal ahead of by-elections.

The circular follows previous instructions by the Centre to deploy 15 companies of paramilitary forces, including 1,500 personnel, for the bypoll.
