  • Sam Altman says Elon Musk has superpowers.
  • These 'superpowers' were extremely helpful for OpenAI during its early days.
  • Musk was part of OpenAI in 2015.

When ChatGPT was launched in November 2022, the world was left marvelling at the new technology. People used it to create content, compose poetry and music, generate content ideas, and a lot more. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT and its CEO, Sam Altman, became a household name due to the AI chatbot's popularity. With time, details about the company and its CEO began emerging and we got to know that Twitter owner Elon Musk was also involved in the creation of OpenAI a couple of years back. Musk, however, left the company in 2018, years before it tasted success with the revolutionary AI chatbot.

For the last few months, Musk and Altman have often taken digs at each other. While Musk has time and again termed ChatGPT as 'concerning', Altman, during an MIT event held in April this year, said that Musk and other tech experts' letter calling for pause on AI development 'lacked technical nuance about where we need the pause'.

However, Altman has now said that Elon Musk has some 'real superpowers' that helped OpenAI during its early days.

Altman says Musk has superpowers

According to a report in Fortune, the OpenAI CEO made an appearance on the In Good Company podcast this week and said that Elon was a 'talent and attention magnet' for OpenAI and also had some 'real superpowers' that were of immense help to the OpenAI team in early days.

“Elon was definitely a talent magnet and attention magnet, for sure, and also just like has some real superpowers that were super helpful to us in those early days, aside from all of those things,” Altman was quoted saying by the publication. However, Altman didn't really give an example of what 'superpowers' he was referring to.

Sam Altman on Elon Musk leaving OpenAI

Last month, A report by The New Yorker shed some light on how things were at OpenAI when Elon Musk left the company. Altman had then said that when Musk left the company, it was very tough on him as he had to 'reorient his life and time in order to ensure that the company had enough funding'.

"Elon desperately wants the world to be saved. But only if he can be the one to save it," he had added.

For the unversed, Musk was one of the co-founders of OpenAI when the company was established back in 2015. However, in 2018, Musk had left the company and also let go of all his stake in it. Earlier this year, a lot was reported on Musk’s departure from OpenAI. While some said that Musk left over a ‘conflict of interest situation’ as his other two companies, Tesla and Space X, were also working on AI technologies, other reports suggested that the Twitter boss left OpenAI as he wanted to run it on his own terms and was denied the right to do so.
