TRUDEAU'S MEETING WITH PM MODI

On Sunday, he had a pull-aside meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi where the issue of Khalistani extremism in Canada was among the key topics discussed. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said PM Modi conveyed "strong concerns about continuing anti-India activities of extremist elements in Canada".

At a press briefing after the meeting, Trudeau said, "We are always there to prevent violence and to push back against hatred". However, he added that Canada would "always defend freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, and freedom of peaceful protest".

Trudeau also called India an "important partner to Canada" on issues of climate change and creating growth and prosperity for citizens. "There is always a lot of work to do and we will continue to do it," said the Canadian Prime Minister.
