As time passes by and we approach the last few months of 2023, more and more people are realising the importance of AI tools and are learning how to use them in their day to day life. Be it content marketers and writers or corporate employees with tight deadlines, AI seems to be slowly becoming a part of our lives. With tools like ChatGPT, Bard and Bing, we can do things we never could before and companies are experimenting with their own AI chatbots as well. However, a question that still looms in people's mind is- will AI replace them at their job completely one day?

A lot has been said about this already and while one section of people believe that AI will indeed have an impact on the job market, others are more optimistic and feel that it is only going to help humans get better at their jobs but will never fully replace a human being. Cred CEO Kunal Shah, however, belongs to the former category and feels that around 90 per cent of people's jobs are in danger due to AI.

Kunal Shah on AI

In a conversation with CNBC-TV18 recently, Shah said that at the moment, we are not 'realising the risk of AI'. He added that he is confident about 90 per cent people losing their jobs in the next 10 years.

“We are not realising the risk of AI. I can tell you with confidence that 90 percent of people, who have jobs right now may not have their jobs relevant 10 years from now,” he said.

Now, some people have also argued that by upskilling and learning how to master the use of AI, they can keep their jobs. But Shah kind of disagrees. He feels that it isn't possible for humans to upskill so quickly and that it is going to be a 'real challenge' unless someone is a 'very curious compounding person'.

"The time to upskill is going to be a real challenge. Unless you are a very curious compounding person, everybody's job is at risk," he said.

Sam Altman on AI taking human jobs

ChatGPT parent company OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, has also talked about jobs going away due to AI on more than one occasion.

In an interview with The Atlantic in July, Altman said that AI's impact on humanity will not be all positive. He told the publication that even though a lot of people who are working on AI 'pretend' that it is only going to be for the good of humans, act like a supplement for them, and won't replace anyone at their jobs. However, that is not the case.

Apart from this, he also revealed that OpenAI could have created something even more powerful than ChatGPT but the public would not have been ready for such an advancement.

"We could have gone off and just built this in our building here for five more years and we would have had something jaw-dropping," he said and added that the public would not have been prepared for the 'shock' that followed, and the outcome is quite 'unpleasant' to imagine.
